Sick children and their families are cared for each year in a family-focused healing environment – including 20inpatient admissions, 50emergency department presentations and 960outpatient occasions of service. Elective students will be allocated to a team and as part of their elective will spend time on the wards , attend teaching sessions, Grand Rounds, ward rounds etc. An elective student program does not correspond to that of a final year student at the University of Sydney and as such, no documentation to that effect will be signed (eg. “same rights and duties” statement).


Most wards have their own special visiting hours. Visitors are requested to take note of signage on the wards regarding the visiting hours or call the ward prior to visiting. Special areas such as Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Centre for New Born Care and all other high dependency units have restricted visiting.
